PROJECT
With the present project and the creation of a feed supplement based on biochar, positive effects are expected mainly in pig farming

PROJECT OBJECTIVE
The main objective of the proposed project is to address important problems related to the uncontrolled administration of animal feed in livestock farming. With the present project and the creation of a feed supplement based on biochar, positive effects are expected mainly in pig farming (e.g. reduction of toxins absorbed by animals, improvement of their digestion, greater efficiency in the use of animal feed, lower greenhouse gas (GHG emissions) from animal feces etc.).
At the same time, positive results are also expected in the agricultural sector with the "redefinition" of prunings from agricultural "waste" to a usable product, thus addressing the problem of managing prunings from tree crops. Finally, through the innovation mediator, the establishment of a common single language of communication between the agricultural (feed provider) and the livestock (feed receiver) operator is sought.

BUSINESS PROJECT INNOVATION
With the proposed project and the creation of a new (for Greek animal husbandry) feed supplement (biochar) from the utilization of agricultural residual biomass, the aim is to improve both the quality of farmed animals and the operation of the livestock unit, as well as the reduction of environmental nuisance from mismanagement (e.g. burning) of biomass in the field. This will lead to a significant improvement in the competitiveness of primary producers in relation to the competition (as they will be able to provide a higher quality livestock product) and better integration of their livestock products in both the domestic and international markets. In addition, agricultural producers will also gain significant benefits as they will be able to exploit a by-product of their production as an intermediate product with commercial value.
